FAQs

Some Frequently Asked Questions:

Why does my dog need to be vaccinated to come to doggy daycare/boarding?
Vaccinations are required for your pet’s safety. Getting your dog vaccinated protects their body from common pet viruses.
Why are you closed during the middle of the day (11am - 3pm Monday - Friday and 11:00 - 2:00 Saturday and Sunday)?
VIP Pet Care is closed during these hours so that the staff can spend more time with the dogs individually, perform scheduled grooms, and catch up with daily duties.
What is kennel cough?
Kennel cough is a virus. It is like a doggie cold.
How much time does my dog get outside?
This is dependant on many variables:

  • weather
  • behaviour and personality of your pet
  • if your pet is spayed or neutered
How big are the kennels?
Each kennel is 4 X 8 feet on the inside run and 4 X 12 feet in the outside run. We also have smaller kennels for the tiny breeds.
What should I bring for a boarding stay and what can stay at home?
Check out our Boarding page to find the answer to this question.
Why can't my dog wear a choker, pinch, or bark collar while at the kennel?
Safety! These collars are meant for training purposes only.
What other precautionary steps could I take above regular vaccinations and annual vet examinations to help keep my pet healthy?
Talk to your vet and inform them that you are bringing your pet to a kennel for boarding or daycare. Your vet can offer tips and advice about extra care you can provide your pet (like regular de-worming and flea/tick baths or drops). Routinely checking your pet’s body helps keep pet owners aware of their pet’s body and maintain the health of their pet. Like a school, playground, or daycare for children, viruses and parasites are much more common at doggy daycare. Each virus or parasite is contracted in a different way, but some are more common at doggy daycare because of the combination of dog-to-dog contact and the difficult detectability of common viruses and parasites. Parasites and viruses, such as lice, ticks, various worms (ring, heart, tape, hook, round, whip) viral papillomas and kennel cough, are all commonly contracted from dog-to-dog contact.
Why are there specific check in and out times for boarding?
This allows the staff sufficient time to organize each day in accordance with arrivals, departures, daycare and grooming. At VIP Pet Care we feel that it is very important to maintain structure so that we can give each dog the time and space they require to be comfortable and safe during each visit.
What if I need to pick up or drop off my dog outside of the designated drop off and pick up times (within the regular business hours)?
VIP Pet Care is more than willing to accommodate early check ins and late check outs within our regular hours for an additional fee of $20 per kennel. If you require a drop off or pick up outside of the regular business hours there is an additional fee $40. Check out our Check in and Out Times and Hours of Operation to find more information.
Why does my dog have to wear a keepsafe collar while at VIP Pet Care?

At VIP Pet Care we feel that safety is very important. We have decided that it is mandatory for all dogs at VIP to wear the keepsafe collar. The keepsafe collar is fully functional for everyday use, but has a safety release clasp to avoid accidental strangulation. The safety release clasp will snap off if your dog’s collar ever becomes entangled on anything, including trees, bushes, heating vents, or on another dog. Due to the social environment we feel that it is for the best for everyone to be wearing the keepsafe collars.

Why are there additional fees when I board my dog?

There are additional fees for boarding dogs when the staff are required to perform tasks outside of VIP Pet Care’s daily routine.

  • Feeding Special Diet
  • Medications
  • Single Dogs
  • Feed Separate
  • Lunches
  • AM Drop Off
  • PM Pick Up
Is there an additional fee if my dog is not social with other dogs and must be kept separate?

Yes, if your dog is dog-aggressive or the staff at VIP Pet Care decide that your dog should have alone time exercise, there is an extra $10 fee per day for regular playtime in one of our separate play areas.

Why is there an additional fee to feed my dogs separately?

here is an additional fee to feed dogs boarding in the same kennel separately because this task requires the use of 2 kennels. There are multiple reasons why dogs from the same family must be fed separately: they fight over food, they eat different types of food, or one dog eats all of their food and the other dog’s food. We decided the additional fee was a better option rather than paying for 2 separate kennels for dogs who cannot eat in the same kennel together.
